SSIS provides Learning Support for students who have barriers to learning, and who require special support to participate in the school’s programs. Learning Support is provided by specially trained teachers responding to referrals made by teachers, support staff, and/or parents. Learning Support staff carry out classroom observations and discuss any further details as deemed necessary with teachers, parents, and the Student Services Team. Learning Support Teachers work together with Counselors and Subject or Classroom Teachers to develop a Learning Support Plan for students which outlines the identified areas of concern and the objectives to be achieved in working with the student.

The Learning Support staff offer strategies to students and teachers to assist students in their learning such as accommodations within the regular classroom and adaptations or modifications to the learning materials. Students may be withdrawn from the regular classroom for individual or small group support or to attend after school activities. Learning Support Staff are available for individual teacher consultation for differentiation of tasks for gifted and talented learners and those with learning problems.
