Welcome to Grade 1 at SSIS. This year we have 5 mainstream classes and 3 intensive classes in Grade 1.
The PYP is central to the learning process at SSIS and guides our planning in all curriculum areas. It enables an integrated and in depth study of the chosen areas for Grade 1 and more information on each one of these areas will be sent home as the year progresses. A brief outline follows: The Human body, Materials, Our Host Country China, From Farm to table, Animals in Danger, Tell Me a story

Information guide for Grade 1 parents
Welcome to Grade 1 this year at SSIS. We have prepared some information which we hope will help you to start the year smoothly and understand some of the daily routines for your child in Grade 1.
End of the day arrangements
Buses Your child will have been assigned to a bus and given a number of that bus if they travel to and from school this way. Please make sure that your child knows which bus they are on. Your child must go home on this bus. They are no longer allowed to go home on a different bus if they are going to a friend’s house or another destination. They will be put on their usual bus and you will need to make your own arrangements to collect them to take them anywhere else. If your child usually goes home on the bus and is not going home on the bus for some reason, but being picked up by yourself or another designated adult, you MUST inform the teacher via the communication book, the bus ayi and the Primary office. The homeroom teacher will put them on the bus they are assigned to if this is not followed. A child will not simply be able to pass that message on verbally to the teacher.
Once a child is on the bus they will not be allowed to get off the bus again to go back into school and collect things that they have left behind like umbrellas and jackets, or go to the toilet. This delays the bus departure times and makes it difficult to keep track of the children on the bus. Please explain this to your child. They will be given time to collect all their belongings and go to the toilet before they get on the bus.
Parent pick-up
If your child is being picked up by an adult every day, the collection point is currently downstairs in the Grade 1 central area (CS1) where they will be
supervised until someone arrives. Please do not ask your child to wait in the classroom or corridors for you as they will not be allowed to do so. This includes children who are
collected by drivers. They must also go to the central area. Please ask your driver to pick them up from there and nowhere else in school.
Water bottles
please make sure that your child has a water bottle or cup in school that they can use with their names on. The school does not provide cups for the children and they are not allowed to take the water bottles from school at snack and lunch out of the canteen.
Toys and electronic devices
Electronic toys such as Gameboys and i-pods are not
permitted in school, and we would discourage the children from bringing in any toys from home. The school is not responsible for any loss or damage to toys brought in.
