World Languages, Middle School and High School Spanish Teacher-------Renee Rehfeldt

_MG_5525I studied History, Social Studies, and Spanish at Truman State University in Missouri, in the United States. In addition to a Teacher's Certificate, I also earned a Master's Degree in Education.
My teaching career began in Missouri, where I taught Spanish for 13 years. While there, I also helped develop curriculum and lead workshops.
I joined SSIS in 2007, as a Geography and Spanish teacher and currently teach Spanish for Middle School and High School. Since 2008, I have worked as Head of Department for World Languages.

_MG_6876 Istudied Chinese Language and Literature at Changshu Institute of Technology, and achieved a bachelor degree at Suzhou University of Science and Technology. 
I taught Chinese in a middle school in Suzhou for 8 years before joining SSIS in 2000. 

In the last nine years here, I have taught IBMYP Chinese B Advanced, Chinese B Standard and Chinese B Foundation and I also have been teaching IBDP Chinese B for 6 years. In addition to my academic teaching, I have two years’ experience of head of Chinese department.

Chinese studies teacher-------Sherry Ji (Ji Xiaoli)

Xiao Li Ji  I studied pre-school education in Nanjing Normal University. I also received my bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate in 2003.

I came to SSIS in 2005 as a Chinese teacher after working in a local school for two years. I usually teach young learners. I moved to Secondary this semester due to Ms. Zhang Yun’s maternity leave.

Chinese teacher--------Zhi Ying Hu

_MG_5708I graduated from Hunan Normal University, majoring in Chinese. I began teaching at a Hunan secondary school for 10 years and went to Guangxi secondary school for 3 years.

In 2001, I came to a Suzhou local school to teach secondary school Chinese and from 2002 till the present, I have been at SSIS, teaching secondary school Chinese, and been greatly involved in the moderation process of MYP. In the last 8 years, I have taught Y6.A. Y7BA ,Y8BA ,Y9A,Y10BA, Y10A , Y11A2 etc and this year, I teach Y9A, Y11AB, Y12A2.
As well as my teaching duties in SSIS, I coached the Badminton club, participated in competition and attained significant achievement in Badminton.

Chinese teacher----------Xu Lan Yuan

_MG_5795I studied Chinese language and literature at Shandong University, and achieved a master’s degree of Chinese literature in Suzhou University.
 My first experience as an educator was in Anhui province of China teaching Chinese language at a College. I went on to teach mass communication there for one and a half years.
 I joined SSIS in 2005. In the last four years here, I have taught MYP Chinese BA, Chinese A, DP Chinese A1, Chinese A2 and HSD Chinese studies. 

           

In addition to my academic teaching, now I am also the supervisor of Chinese writing club, which is a CAS activity for HS students.

Homeroom Teacher, High school Chinese teacher--------Yue Ru (Cherry)Guo

I studied Chinese Literature at Suchow University, Suzhou, before doing a post-graduate course in English at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, meanwhile I trained to be a teacher.

 My first experience as an educator was here in Suzhou teaching English at a Technology Training College.  I went on to teach Chinese Writing in a local training school in Wuxi before joining SSIS in 2007.

High School Chinese teacher---------Ivy Zhu (朱亚苇)

I studied Chinese language and culture at Nanjing Normal University and achieved a Bachelor Degree of Art after University study. I taught in a local high school for several years and also worked as a didactical director in a bilingual school before joining SSIS in 2004.

In the last five years here, I have taught MYP Chinese A, Chinese B Advanced, Chinese B Standard and Chinese B Foundation.  I have also taught IBDP G12 Chinese A2 Higher and Standard level. I have been a supervisor for the MYP Personal Project for several years.This year I am teaching 9RN Chinese B Standard, 10LEA Chinese B Standard and G11 Chinese B Higher and Standard level, and am also the G11L Homeroom co-teacher.My E-mail address is:ivyzhu@ssis-suzhou.net .

6A/R science, German and homeroom teacher Grade 6L -------Ariane Emken

Ariane Emken.jpg I am a German secondary school teacher for many of the Geman speaking students in the Middle and the High School at SSIS.
Born in the north of Germany, I studied German and Biology at the University of Kiel. After my “1st State Exam” at the university I did my obligatory two-year teacher training at a secondary school (German “Gymnasium”), where I passed my “2nd State Exam”.

Although I am very interested in travelling around the world, I had never lived abroad. That’s why I decided to work at the SSIS: Living in a foreign country, learning about all the cultures, being a part of an international community, teaching the German students and enabling them to attend a German school when their parents go back home some day. H.S German teacher-------Dagmar Valder

Picture83 I`m from Cologne, Germany. This is my second year at this school and I am happy to be part of the SSIS team, working for the German Department.

I am here as a programme teacher of the German administrative department. We are working on a scheme to establish the German curriculum within the MYP programme to make it easier for the German students to fit in the German school system after returning back home.  At the moment I am teaching Diploma German A, Diploma German ab initio, and Humanities in German.

Japanese teacher--------Shun Kagaya

I studied English and American literature at Aoyamagakuin University, Japan, before I went to New Zealand, where I trained to be a language teacher at Auckland University of Technology, and did a post-graduate course in applied linguistics at Auckland University.
Before I joined SSIS five years ago, I taught Japanese at Auckland University of Technology for 5 years, then moved to China in 2001 and taught at Dalian University of Technology, and North-East Economic University in Dalian.

In the last 4 years, I have taught Japanese B, Japanese Ab Initio, and Japanese A in both the Middle School and High School.  I have enjoyed being involved in the gardening club, the Japanese club, and Japanese supplemental classes after school.

High School Korean Teacher--------Kim, Hyun Ae (Sheila)

_MG_5458 I am the Homeroom teacher for 11E and teach Korean to 8LE, Grade 9 and Grade 12 IB.
 I am from Korea. I studied American Studies for my 1st BA. I worked at a private elementary school in Seoul. While I was working in the school, I went back to Sungshin Women’s University for my 2nd BA, in English Language & Literature and M.A. in Education. Then, I received teacher training in a middle school.
  After working over 10 years in my old school, I came to SSIS in 2008. This is my 2nd school year at SSIS.

Korean teacher and parent liason--------Hyuk Sang Son

_MG_7016I studied P.E. (bachelor degree) and Sports Management (master degree) at Yonsei University, Korea. I earned teacher certification while studying for my bachelor degree.

This is my first opportunity to teach Korean Literature. I have also lectured at Yonsei and Hansung University before joining SSIS in 2006.    

In the last three years here, I have taught MYP Language A (Korean) and IBD Language A1(Korean).

In addition to my main duties, I have been a high school soccer team (D1) coach in 2008 and a high school volleyball team (D1) coach in 2009.
