Humanities and DP History teacher---------Libby Ince

I studied History BA (Hons) at Bristol, England. I taught English as a foreign language in Madrid before returning to Bristol to complete my teaching certificate (P.G.C.E). I taught humanities for a year in the UK before moving to Mexico with my partner Richard. I taught history IGCSE and A’level in a bilingual school in Mexico and then again in Colombo, Sri Lanka. We moved to Suzhou, where for the last 8 years we have lived, acquiring 3 bilingual children and 40m3 worth of ‘essentials’. I work in the Humanities department and have taught history, geography, English, Spanish and ToK in that time. I was previously Head of Grade 6 before becoming Head of Grades 11/12 in 2008.

Head of Grade 9-------Melodie Greene

Great Wall Aug 2005 014I studied French and Political Science at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada before completing my post-graduate degree in education at the University of Wollongong in NSW, Australia.

For the past four years I have been teaching History and Geography at SSIS, although I have also taught English and French.

In addition to my duties, I help out with the school’s Model United Nations which meets on a weekly basis.

Humanities, United States History, and IB Economics--------Don Preston

DSCN2260.JPGI graduated from Arizona State University, USA, with a degree in history. I also have a Master’s Degree in bilingual and multicultural education from Northern Arizona University. During my twelve years as a teacher, I have taught several history courses, as well as government, economics, French, and even elementary school ESL (English as a second language).

This is my second year at SSIS. In addition to my teaching, I assist the Drama program as the Head Carpenter, helping students to construct sets and props for their yearly play and other dramatic productions. My E-mail address is:donpreston@ssis-suzhou.net.

Humanities, 10AR Humanities,Asian Studies---------Anthony Iacobucci

_MG_6806My name is Anthony Iacobucci. I am from the United States, where I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in Education, History/Social Studies and also in Spanish Language. I have been teaching for ten years. I taught in Michigan, in Miami, Florida, and at two different international schools in Colombia, South America before coming to Suzhou. This is my fourth year teaching at SSIS. In addition to my classes, I am in charge of Student Council and am the Extended Essay Coordinator for grades 11 and 12.

Humanities ,History Teacher and Head of Grade 10--------Michael Hawkes

I am a Canadian who has been teaching for nine years. I first studied Sports Administration at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada. After graduating I left for South Korea in 1999 to teach English as a Second Language. I taught ESL for more than five years in South Korea and one year in Canada.  I enjoyed teaching so much I returned to university where I studied at the University of Maine at Fort Kent in Maine, USA, and majored in Secondary Education-Social Studies/History.

This is my third year at SSIS. I taught Physical Education for one year and currently teach Humanities and IB Diploma History. I am now the Head of Grade 10 and I coordinate our camp program and coach High School Division 2 basketball. My E-mail address is:michaelhawkes@ssis-suzhou.net .

Business and Management Teacher---------Dexter Phillips

I am a national of Guyana South America/Caribbean; where I studied Business Management at the University of Guyana, and later went on to pursue A Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of San Carlos, and an Educational Doctorate (Ed.D) at the University of Cebu, Philippines.  I also received my teacher’s training and certification at the University of Cambridge Centre for International Education in the UK.
Currently, I am pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at the Swiss Management Centre – University in Switzerland.
My teaching experience spans a number of years with in the national education system of Guyana and international schools in Guyana and the Philippines, where I taught the University of Cambridge A levels Economic, Business Studies and Accounting, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Business and Management programme. I also served in a number of administrative capacities.
Here at SSIS my current role is the teacher of Business and Management to grade 11 and 12 classes and Subject Coordinator in the Department of Humanities.
