English A1 IB HL (12)
Students study a variety of texts which covers poetry, drama, fiction, and non-fiction prose. Readings include titles such as Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Sophocles’ Oedipus Tyrannus, the poetry of John Keats, Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles, Woolf’s To the Lighthouse, and Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. Assessment tasks include oral presentations and commentaries; written commentaries; comparison-contrast essays; and essay examinations. Readings include titles such as Shakespeare’s Othello, Sophocles’ Oedipus the King, the poetry of Sylvia Plath, Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things, Miller’s Death of a Salesman, and Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner. Assessment tasks include oral presentations and commentaries, written commentaries, and essays. English A2 IB HL (12)
The second year of the English A2 HL/SL and HSD honors course continues the study of literary options and how writers use language and style to present ideas, themes, feelings and attitudes. Students learn how to compare and contrast how English is used in different texts, and how language and style affect the presentation of theme and topic. Students will spend the year practicing for Paper 1 and Paper 2 for the IB exams, as well as finalizing two written tasks and completing their oral presentations.

English B HL (12)
) Students will further develop their language skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing and presenting. Emphasis is placed on understanding how the English language is used in a variety of situations and for a variety of purposes. Therefore, they will utilize an assortment of texts, including IELTS and TOEFL exam preparation books, grammar textbooks, magazines, newspapers, fiction and film to classify, analyze, and evaluate information. Students study current and global issues and practice their skills in oral competence with debates, interviews and presentations. Students will prepare for the IBDP exams and further tertiary study by focusing on various genres prevalent in such exams such as narrative, persuasive writing, report writing, recount, and essays.
