English Language and Litrature HL and SL (11)
The English Language and Literature course introduces students to a range of texts from different periods, styles and genres, developing their ability to engage in close, detailed analysis of individual texts and making relevant connections. They are encouraged to recognize the importance of the contexts in which the texts are written and received and to develop an appreciation of the different perspectives of people from other cultures. The students' power of expression both in oral and written communication is developed as is their appreciation of the formal, stylistic and aesthetic qualities of texts.

English Literature HL (11)
English A Literature develops understanding of the techniques involved in literary criticism and promotes the ability to form independent literary judgments. It is a flexible course that allows teachers to choose literary works from prescribed book lists and to construct a course that suits the particular needs and interests of their students.
The HL course will be based on a literary study of three works in translation; close study and analysis of three works, each of a different genre and one of which is poetry; literary study of four works of the same literary genre; three works chosen by the teacher. Students will need to complete a 1200-1500 word written assignment for external assessment. For internal assessment students will need to complete an oral literary commentary and interview and an individual oral presentation. Students interested in studying languages or human sciences at university should take Language A Literature.

English Literature SL (11)

English B IB HL (11)
Students will further develop their language skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing and presenting. Emphasis is placed on understanding how the English language is used in a variety of situations and for a variety of purposes. Therefore, they will utilize an assortment of texts, including IELTS and TOEFL exam preparation books, grammar textbooks, magazines, newspapers, fiction and film to classify, analyze, and evaluate information. Students study current and global issues and practice their skills in oral competence with debates, interviews and presentations. Students will prepare for the IBDP exams and further tertiary study by focusing on various genres prevalent in such exams such as narrative, persuasive writing, report writing, recount, and essays. Students will be assessed in a variety of ways including writing, oral presentations, and technology using the DP assessment criteria
