At SSIS we believe that each child is unique and that all children learn differently and each child’s prior knowledge and experience is varied. We celebrate the cultural diversity in our host country China and in the international community. We provide an holistic, child-centred and play based programme which caters for the needs of all children, as believe that this is the optimum learning environment.

Play is the first work any of us do – it is the business of childhood and is as essential to normal development as food and drink. Play is not trivial, it is highly serious and of deep significance.” – Froebel.

We believe children need:
Time and space to explore
Opportunities to investigate and play with a variety of materials
Guidance and experience in working collaboratively with others
Support which sustains and extends their knowledge and understanding
Time to reflect and share their experiences with othersOpportunities to initiate inquiry and ask questions

In the Early Years we:
Facilitate well planned play in which young children learn through a stimulating and challenging environment.
Promote reciprocal and supportive relationships between the teacher and the parent and between the school and the home.
Believe the relationships which young children establish with peers and adults are of central importance to development and learning.
Implement practices to meet the needs of both the group and the individual.
Provide a secure learning environment in which the individual is valued and respected.
