ICT is viewed as an integrated component of the teaching and learning program at SSIS. We believe that ICT skills are best developed in the context of ongoing educational experiences rather than as individual skills taught by a specialist teacher.
The Elementary school ICT resources include a broad range of hardware and software which, combined with thoughtful strategies and a meaningful context, promote higher order thinking, problem solving, and reflective learning practices.
Because learning occurs in the context of authentic and relevant curriculum tasks, ICT skill development is integrated into all components of the teaching and learning environment. Over the course of the Primary Years Programme, students learn to use various equipment and software to develop their information skills (finding, sorting, using, inputting, storing, retrieving, interpreting) and their communication skills (presentations - written, oral, multimedia).
The students and teachers have access to a blend of teaching and learning technologies including laptop and desktop computers, interactive whiteboards and online sites and services. The use of mobile devices and flexible spaces means teachers are able to plan for the best use of ICTs in the context of the desired learning task.
