Grade 5 Exhibition Information
Welcome to Grade Five at SSIS. This year we have four classes supported by homeroom teachers and an ESL teacher. Our professional team comes from the UK, Canada, United States and Australia. With our diverse backgrounds, knowledge and expertise we contribute to the balanced and varied learning experiences for the students in a truly international environment.
The highlight of Semester 1 is the Grade 5 camp where students spend two nights with their peers and take part in various team building and cooperative activities in a safe environment away from home. The year ends with the Sharing the Planet unit and the PYP Exhibition that allows the students to use their understanding and skill to work collaboratively to develop a student initiated project which has an environmental or philanthropic focus.

Encouraging individuality |
|
Through our units, Grade 5 students are challenged to become confident and independent learners by being encouraged to problem solve, make their own decisions and reflect on their efforts. Some Language and Math topics are integrated within the units of inquiry while some elements are taught as separate components. The students are accustomed to an investigative approach to Math with the opportunity to learn necessary concepts that could be used in a real life situation. Grade 5 students benefit from smaller groups for language based activities. Beginner and intermediate English students have daily lessons outside of the homeroom, providing them a more individual program.
The Grade 5 teaching team works hard to ensure all students have a productive yet enjoyable final year to their elementary education.
