PARENT ZONE

Parent Volunteer Organization (PVO)
What is the PVO?  The Parent Volunteer Organization is an all-parent group that works together with the school’s administrative team to build and maintain a good relationship among SSIS staff, parents, and students by providing feedback and support in partnership with each other.  This is achieved by:

  • Providing a regular and ongoing channel of information between parents and the school through the general monthly PVO meeting.
  • Providing a forum for the discussion of/ feedback about Elementary, Middle School, or High School-wide issues (as opposed to individual issues) through division parent meetings, tea and coffee hours, etc.
  • Working with students and staff to improve school operations and policies through individual group committees, such as the Canteen Committee, Uniform Review Committee, etc.

How often does the PVO meet?  The PVO meets regularly once a month along with heads of division and other staff, while division groups and individual committees meet more or less often as needed.  Monthly meetings are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on the following dates:
September 2, 2009 (Kick-off meeting)
October 21, 2009
November 11, 2009
December 2, 2010
January 6, 2010
February 3, 2010
March 10, 2010
April 7, 2010
May 5, 2010
June 2, 2010
Where does the PVO meet?  Meetings are held in the school’s Staff Room, BN203, located on the second level, north corridor just before the Canteen.
What other committees are organized by the parents of the PVO?  Active committees for the 2009-2010 include:
Canteen:  works with the canteen staff to insure a variety of well-balanced snacks and meals are provided to students.
Class Parents:  supports teachers by volunteering as needed on field trips, special events hosted at the school, or in the classroom.
