Grade 9-12 Course Descriptors

Physical Science
This course aims to provide students with a firm foundation of knowledge and understanding of the fundamental area of Physical Science. The programme allows students to investigate chemical reactions (in both practical experimental and theoretical terms) and to explain them using the models of atomic structure and chemical bonding. Students then apply atomic theory further to explain various physical properties of different materials along with associated energy changes. The assessment scheme has four areas that are weighted equally. These are: Communication (lab reports, presentations and essays), Knowledge and Understanding (tests), Practical Work (laboratory reports) and Personal Skills (group work, determination, lab safety).

Biological Science
Students in this program focus on a diverse set of Biology topics that have everyday, applicable uses. Throughout the course, students will see how Biologists work to design and make new products, study how our body works and how to stay healthy, and how Scientists are trying to address some of the most complicated problems that face humanity today: diseases and environmental change. The assessment scheme has four areas that are weighted equally. These are: Communication (lab reports, presentations and essays), Knowledge and Understanding (tests), Practical Work (laboratory reports) and Personal Skills (group work, determination, lab safety).
